FAQs
Q: What is mandelic acid and why is it good for sensitive skin?
A: Mandelic acid is a gentle AHA (alpha hydroxy acid) derived from almonds that has a larger molecular size than other AHAs, which means it penetrates the skin more slowly and causes less irritation. This makes it ideal for sensitive, acne-prone, and reactive skin types that need effective exfoliation without harsh side effects.
Q: How often should I use this toner?
A: You can use this toner daily, both morning and night, after cleansing. If you're new to chemical exfoliants or have very sensitive skin, start by using it every other day and gradually increase frequency as your skin builds tolerance.
Q: What skin concerns does this toner address?
A: This toner helps with clogged pores, excess sebum production, rough texture, dark spots, post-acne marks, and uneven skin tone. It's particularly effective for those struggling with acne-prone or congested skin while being gentle enough for sensitive skin types.
Q: Can I use this toner with other active ingredients like retinol or vitamin C?
A: Yes, but it's best to introduce actives slowly and monitor your skin's response. If using retinol, consider alternating nights, or use mandelic acid in the morning and retinol at night. With vitamin C, you can layer them in the same routine, but always patch test first and listen to your skin.
Q: How do I apply this toner to my face?
A: After cleansing, apply the toner to a cotton pad and gently swipe across your face and neck, avoiding the eye area, or pat it directly onto skin with clean hands. Wait a minute for it to absorb before continuing with the rest of your skincare routine.
Q: Will this toner make my skin purge?
A: Some users may experience a brief purging period when first using this toner, as the mandelic acid accelerates cell turnover and brings underlying congestion to the surface. This typically lasts 2-4 weeks and is a sign the product is working, but if irritation persists beyond that, reduce usage frequency.
Q: Do I need to wear sunscreen when using this product?
A: Yes, AHAs like mandelic acid can make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so daily broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher is essential. This protects your newly exfoliated skin and prevents dark spots from worsening due to sun exposure.
How to Use
After cleansing your face, dispense an appropriate amount of the Mandelic Acid Gentle Exfoliating Toner onto a cotton pad or into clean hands. Gently sweep or pat the toner across your face and neck, avoiding the eye area. Use once daily, preferably in the evening, and gradually increase to twice daily as your skin builds tolerance. Always follow with a moisturizer and apply broad-spectrum sunscreen during the day, as AHAs can increase sun sensitivity.
For best results, incorporate this toner consistently into your routine to reveal clearer, brighter, and more even-toned skin over time.
My daughter uses this every night in her skin routine. It’s very affective in smoothing her skin and keeping blemishes away. It’s one of the less harsher exfoliants she has tried….It’s a little pricey but it works well!!

Great for exfoliation
Very gentle exfoliator that helps remove dead skin cells. Great for dry skin. My teen is using this too 2 to 3 times a week to help diminish pimple marks. Our routine includes rice toner, klairs vit c, klairs vit e and all over lotion.

Adore this
This is unbeatable when combined with By wishtrend's Vit C. My morning routine is simplified now, consisting of just these two steps plus sunscreen. Highly recommend for fuss-free and effective results.

Works great on my sensitive skin
I've tried several acid products over the years but they all left me red/irritated ... FOR DAYS!!! I gave them up long ago. I've had such great results recently with Korean skincare products that when I ran across the 5% mandelic acid, I was willing to give it a try. I started off slowly just to make sure my skin could handle it but I now use it every evening w/no irritation, redness, pain, etc. I find that it works best w/my Pyunkang Yul cotton pads. It leaves my skin soft, and I notice any products I use afterwards are much more effective.
Hi Cella, it's hard to find the right acid that suits your skin. We completely empathize with your experience. We are so glad the Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water doesn't irritate your skin. It's the best feeling in the world to find a skincare product that actually works after so much trial and error. Thank you for leaving this amazing review. We wish you all the best in your skincare journey : ) - Cupidrop Team

Great exfoliant for sensitive skin!
I can't use most AHA products anymore. They set off my eczema badly. However, this mandelic acid toner is gentle enough but still fairly effective, plus doesn't smell nearly as bad as some other acids. Don't expect it to be as strong as the likes of glycolic acid, however. If your skin is tough and you like a strong exfoliant, this is likely not going to do enough for you.
Hi Teta,
We are so happy to hear that you have found an AHA product that agrees with your skin! Thank you for your review of By Wishtrend Mandelic Acid 5% Skin Prep Water.
